Statement

 By

Mr. Yaser Salarian

Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran

 Before

49th Session of the UPR Working Group

Review of Spain

 Geneva, 30 April 2025

------

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

Iran welcomes the delegation of Spain.

We remain concerned about the human rights situation in Spain, particularly the disturbing trends in human trafficking and exploitation, the imposition of disproportionate punishments on minorities, and the continued violation of the right to education for Roma women and girls.

The Islamic Republic of Iran makes the following recommendations to Spain:

 - To intensify efforts to eliminate educational segregation based on socioeconomic status and ethnicity.

- To take effective measures to ensure that both governmental and private sector actions do not support or contribute to the imposition of UCMs that negatively impact the human rights of affected populations.

- To adopt comprehensive and enforceable legislation to combat human trafficking.

- To urgently implement concrete and effective actions to end gender-based violence against women, particularly addressing the alarming prevalence of femicide.

- To take immediate and tangible steps to eradicate all forms of discrimination, abuse, and ill-treatment directed at immigrants and asylum-seekers.

We wish Spain success in its UPR process.

Thank you, Mr. President.
