Item 4: Human rights situations that require the Council's attention
Geneva, 25 September 2024, 12:00

Madam Vice President,
The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its grave concern regarding the United States' continued support for the Israeli regime, which is actively committing genocide and war crimes against the Palestinian people. We also express our concern over the arrest of over 3,000 protesters, including students and professors, across more than 60 university campuses in the United States in recent months, particularly during demonstrations against Israeli atrocities.
Grave violation of freedom of expression and assembly in some European countries is also a matter of deep concern. Peaceful student protests in Newcastle and Oxford have faced violent suppression by UK police forces. Meanwhile, in Germany, anti-Israel protests have been met with force, resulting in mass evictions and charges against demonstrators. Furthermore, we believe that the EU's new migration pact directly contravenes the Refugee Convention.
We call upon the Council and its relevant mechanism to pay special attention to these serious issues.
I thank you.
