Statement
By
H.E. Mr. Ali BAHREINI
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva
Before
58th session of the Human Rights Council
Item 4: Draft resolution A/HRC/58/L.20
Geneva, 3 April 2025
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Mr. President,
The draft resolution L.20 that embraces two discriminatory and unwarranted monitoring mechanisms on Iran, is plunging the council into a new swamp of inefficiency and another waste of resources that will further shrivel trust on the work of this council.
In a time that gravest human rights violations are consistently occurring in Palestine and its perpetrators are enjoying the highest level of impunity, the core group on the resolution L.20 is trying to mislead this council by creating an illusory picture of human right in the Islamic Republic of Iran to divert attentions from the most serious cases of human rights violations.
Iran, as a country with rich history and civilization, is proud of its achievement and contributions to humanity. We have experienced numerous ups and downs, and we are not that much unfamiliar with such established pressures. In this regard, we remind the main actors of this new puppet show of their responsibility to so many wrongdoing they have done to Iranian people and the whole humanity.
The Islamic Republic of Iran doesn’t see any proportionality between the resolution and its embraced mandates, specifically the newly designed investigation mechanism entitled FFM, with its human rights situation and strongly opposes this draft resolution. Iran also asks the council members to oppose and reject such deceptive move and prevent the council to be misused for political gains.
Finally, I invite everybody to take part in the Iranian music performance of Sorush Molana that will take place tomorrow lunchtime in front of the Human Rights Council and enjoy the taste and spirit of Iranian art.
Thank you.
