Review of Fiji

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

Thank you, Mr. Vice President,

The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the delegation of Fiji and thanks them for their national report.

Iran commends Fiji for ratifying the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution, and Child Pornography in 2021. We also acknowledge the various efforts undertaken by the Government to enhance transparency in the judicial system and combat corruption.

As a small developing Island that faces significant climate change challenges, Fiji has commendably integrated climate change considerations into its planning and policymaking. We take note positive impacts of such planning on reducing the vulnerabilities of women, children and persons with disabilities.

In the constructive spirit we recommend Fiji to:

  1. Intensify efforts to adopt more effective anti-discrimination strategies and enact legislations prohibiting all forms of discrimination against women and girls.
  2. Ensure the elimination and prohibition of torture and other related punishments by law enforcement personnel,
  3. Integrate the right to development into national planning and policies,
  4. Strengthen complementary national social security programs to create a more inclusive social protection framework, particularly for those most in need.

The Islamic Republic of Iran wishes Fiji a successful review.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
