The Human Rights Council
54th Session
Item 2: ID with WG on arbitrary detention
(A/HRC/54/51)
Geneva, 18 September 2023
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Mr. President,
My delegation takes note of the the report of Working Group.
Regarding some of the references made to my country in this report, it should be noted that Iran has addressed all the cases pertaining to my country as presented in the report. Some of these responses are reflected in the report. Despite the clarifications we have provided on these matters, we are witnessing the repetition of some inaccurate claims and allegations regarding certain detainees.
We firmly believe that the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention should reflect verified and accurate informations in its reports. The reflection of inaccurate claims may inadvertently lend credibility to this information, as it is used by a human rights mechanism of the Council. However, it undoubtedly undermines the credibility and standing of the Working Group.
I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that the Islamic Republic of Iran has responded comprehensively to communications from the mandate holders of special procedures, making every possible effort to address any questions or uncertainties regarding the relevant cases.
This commitment is exemplified through the elucidation of pertinent applicable laws and regulations. Iran reaffirms its dedication to maintaining constructive engagement with UN human rights special procedures in accordance with their mandates.
I thank you.
