Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
Agenda Item INS/8
Geneva, 16 March 2022
Thank you, Chair.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Office for the suggested action plan on inequalities in the world of work for the period 2022-2027.
The action plan rightly emphasizes the need for a balanced assessment of the many manifestations and sources of inequality in the workplace. However, as we all know, inequalities may sometimes be the result of developments in other policy areas. Then, one of the potential areas of capacity building could be the skills of the constituents for conducting evidence-based inequality impact assessments.
Inequalities within and between countries are equally important in terms of their impacts for the world of work. Hence, it is the inequalities within member states that is mostly prominent as policy target of the current action plan. Inequalities between countries have been deepened and widened in last two years due to the pandemic. Our delegation encourages the office for more attention to the links between these two types of inequalities.
And finally, we propose the office for developing a country level measurement tool on inequalities in the world of work. This tool will be helpful for producing regular and global reports and trace its trends.
With this comments chair, the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the decision point.
I Thank you.
