--------------------- Statement By Ms. Somayyeh Karimdoost Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran Before 47th Session of the UPR Working Group Review of Brunei Darussalam Geneva, 8 November 2024 بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم Mr. Vice President, My delegation welcomes the delegation of Brunei Darussalam headed by Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs and thanks for their constructive engagement with the UPR process. Islamic Republic of Iran commends positive steps taken by Brunei in areas such as successfully enforcing a housing project for the underprivileged funded by zakat collection, reviewing National Plan of Action on Poverty Eradication to ensure its efficiency, and exemplary efforts to ensure access to clean, safe, and affordable water in conformity with WHO standards. In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iran recommends Brunei to: Continue its efforts in achieving a safe and trustable telehealth and telemedicine services Ensure the preservation and strengthening of traditional family values, parental rights and related social heritage including Support the historical family institution. Further strengthen existing systems to alleviate poverty Actively participate in mechanisms and international meetings related to right to development Ensure equal and adequate attention to both collective and individual rights in a way that realization of the latter doesn’t happen in the cost of former. Iran wishes Brunei Darussalam a successful review. I Thank you. ---
