Iran's Statement Before The Human Rights Council 55th Session Item 3: General Debate
The promotion and protection of all human rights encompassing civil political economic social and cultural rights including the right to development remain paramount in the face of pressing global issues.
Statement By Representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran    Geneva, March 2023   بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم Thank you, Mr. President, The promotion and protection of all human rights, encompassing civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, including the right to development, remain paramount in the face of pressing global issues.   The detrimental impact of unilateral coercive measures not only hinders collective global initiatives but also exacerbates the challenges posed by climate change.   It is imperative that States unite to oppose these illegal measures, aiming to mitigate their negative repercussions, including in the realm of climate change, and work towards sustainable solutions for our planet.   There is an urgent need for States worldwide to establish robust legal deterrence against any form of desecration of the Holy Quran.   Safeguarding the sanctity of religious books, such as the Quran, is not only a matter of respecting religions but also a cornerstone of fostering religious harmony and understanding in societies. Concrete steps must be taken to ensure that freedom of expression is exercised responsibly, without infringing upon the religious sentiments of any community.   The harrowing plight of children in Palestine due to the crimes committed by Israel requires immediate attention and action from the international community and is a stark reminder of the urgent need to end the occupation of Palestinian territories.   Palestinian children deserve the right to live in their own lands in peace, security, and dignity, free from fear and violence.   I thank you, Mr. President.
