Statement By Mr. Hamed Esmailpour Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran  Before OIC Side Event: "Humanitarian Principles in the Prophetic Tradition" Geneva, 24 September 2025 ***** بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم   Excellencies, Distinguished Panelists, Esteemed Colleagues, At the outset, I wish to sincerely thank the OIC and the distinguished panelists for convening this timely and meaningful side event. Today, as we gather to reflect on the humanitarian principles enshrined in the Prophetic tradition, we do so at a moment when the most heinous atrocities are being committed by the Israeli regime against the people of Palestine. These crimes unfold precisely in an era when the Geneva Conventions and other pillars of IHL were meant to ensure that such genocides and war crimes would never recur. For us, as Islamic nations, these principles are not merely legal norms—they are deeply reflected in the Prophetic tradition, which long ago articulated timeless standards for the protection of human dignity in conflict. At the same time, we fight guided by Islamic jurisprudence and the Prophetic tradition. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) laid down clear principles in warfare that civilians must never be harmed, prisoners must be treated with dignity, treaties must be honored, and even in victory, mercy must prevail. The Islamic Republic of Iran abides by these very principles. Even when confronting the most heinous enemies of the Muslim world—an aggressor regime that recognizes no moral, legal, or humanitarian red lines—we act as a responsible Islamic state. Even if our enemies fight with evil rules, we fight them with Islamic rules. And we are certain that, by divine justice, Palestine will see justice prevail. Thank you. ---
