Statement by H.E. Mr. Mohammad Bagher GHALIBAF before the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament
Geneva 30 July 2025
Statement By H.E. Mr. Mohammad Bagher GHALIBAF Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly - Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran Before Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament  Geneva, 30 July 2025  **** بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم Honorable Speakers, Ladies and Gentlemen, Today we have gathered here in Geneva to discuss multilateralism for peace and justice, at a time when these ideals are being systematically and deliberately undermined, and the credibility of international institutions is eroding. The Islamic Republic of Iran was recently the target of a blatant military aggression by the Zionist regime, an attack carried out with the support and coordination of the United States. In these attacks, approximately 1,100 Iranian citizens were martyred, including fourteen prominent scientists and dozens of women and children, and thousands more were injured. These attacks also targeted our peaceful nuclear facilities, which are regularly monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA refused to condemn this illegal act, thereby legitimizing the assault and effectively undermining the global non-proliferation regime. This aggression did not occur after the failure of diplomacy, but right in the middle of political negotiations. Iran was at the negotiating table and committed to dialogue, but it was the aggressors who overturned the table and chose the path of conflict. In response to this aggression, Iran firmly defended its land and people. Our nation—resilient, united, and proud—stood firm, and the world saw Iran deliver a devastating response to the Zionist regime, penetrating the skies over the occupied territories and forcing the aggressors to request a ceasefire. The Zionist regime’s attack, which was a deliberate violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, was condemned by 120 countries. However, a minority of powerful Zionist supporters prevented the international community from taking decisive action to punish the criminal Israeli regime. Do you know what the consequences of impunity for the Zionist regime are? Allowing such aggression to go unpunished not only undermines the legitimacy of the international system, but also sends a dangerous message for global peace, and encourages further crimes by aggressors. Institutions that are supposed to safeguard peace have remained silent in the face of aggression and occupation. Mechanisms meant to ensure justice have accused the victims and shielded the aggressors. Structures that ought to be neutral and independent have too often become tools for political exploitation by certain powers. Today, the same destructive force continues its campaign of violence and aggression. In Gaza, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in a campaign of genocide by the Zionist regime. In Lebanon and Syria, airstrikes continue, displacing families and destroying infrastructure. Just last month, more than 600 people—mostly women and children—were killed while waiting in line for food. The Zionists are using hunger and famine as weapons of mass destruction. The images of starving children in Gaza have become a global disgrace. Gaza today is a museum of crimes against humanity, a testing ground for deadly technologies. Gaza is where the right to live is punished with bullets and starvation—because, in the words of the Defense Minister of the Israeli apartheid regime, Palestinians are viewed as “human-like animals” who should not be allowed food or water. Gaza is not just a dot on the map; it is a test of humanity’s conscience. If we remain silent or turn a blind eye to the massacre of women and children in Gaza, we are sending the message that politicians are mere actors in a theatrical farce of human rights. In the face of the genocide in Gaza, we must not be mere spectators. We must stop the 21st-century Nazis before it is too late. Thank you for your attention. ---
