Statement by Mr. Yaser Salarian before 49th Session of the UPR Working Group - Review of Sweden
.
Statement  By  Mr. Yaser Salarian Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran Before 49th Session of the UPR Working Group Review of Sweden Geneva, 5 May 2025  **** بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم Thank you, Mr. Vice President, Iran welcomes the delegation of Sweden. Since the previous cycle, the human rights situation has deteriorated. We remain deeply concerned about the rise in religious hatred—particularly Islamophobia and Afrophobia—including repeated acts of Quran burning; digital and algorithmic discrimination against Muslims and migrants; racism targeting migrant children; the gender pay gap; high unemployment among persons with disabilities; human trafficking; and the continued use of UCMs, which violate fundamental human rights. The Islamic Republic of Iran makes the following recommendations to Sweden: To take urgent legal and policy measures to prevent and condemn religious hatred, including algorithmic and digital bias. To eliminate all forms of discrimination against Muslims, migrants, and children, particularly in access to services and opportunities. To end the implementation and promotion of unlawful UCMs. To adopt effective mechanisms to combat trafficking in women and girls and ensure full prosecution of such crimes. We wish Sweden success in its UPR process. Thank you. ---
