Statement By Ms. Somayyeh Karimdoost Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran  Before  49th Session of the UPR Working Group Review of the Kiribati  Geneva, 28 April 2025 ------ بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم   Thank you, Mr. President The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the delegation of Kiribati and welcomes their active engagement in the fourth UPR process, Iran commends the tireless efforts by Kiribati in promotion and protection of human rights perused in both national and international levels, including by active cooperation with UNHR treaty body mechanisms.  We are confident that Kiribati, by building on its existing efforts, can overcome some of the human rights challenges and concerns like climate ones. Therefore, we respectfully offer the following recommendations on issues we believe warrant further attention: - Ratify the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, - Ratify the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. - Ensure effective redress for survivors of nuclear testing and their descendants by conducting a comprehensive investigation into the facts, guaranteeing transparency through the dissemination of information, and formally recognizing the hardships they have experienced. - Increase investment in the development of transportation infrastructure to improve students’ access to educational institutions.
