Statement By Dr. Asgar Jalalian Deputy Minister of Justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran   Before The Human Rights Council 55th Session   Annual discussion on the rights of the child Geneva, 14 March 2024 بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم     Mr. President,   The Islamic republic of Iran is determined to continue its work in building comprehensive child protection systems, improving legislative frameworks, addressing root causes and vulnerabilities for all children without discrimination.   We also have a well stablished mechanism of identifying and then, supporting child victims that is followed by provision of care, rehabilitation and reintegration for them.  Considering the importance of building and inclusive society containing child inclusion in important aspects like decision making processes, Iran has gained many successes that some of them as follows: Ratification of the law on “Support of Children and Adolescnet” in 2003 and its amendment in 2021 to provide a comprehensive support to children. Establishment of “Student councils” since 2008 in all Iranian schools with the membership of elected students. The goals of these establishments are "creating the context for the development of their individual and social skills", "developing cooperation in educational affairs" and "interaction between them and the officials". Provision of free and mandatory education for all the kids in Iran regardless of their “nationality” and “condition of stay” for near a century. Provision of support to NGOs and facilitating their work in the field of child affairs to empower them in reaching their goals. In conclusion, we reiterate the negative impact of UCMs on the capacity of governments, especially in economic aspects, for boosting their efforts for dedicating more resources for child developments.   I thank you Mr. President
