UPR adoption of New Zealand, 41st Session of the Human Rights Council
Statement by Mr. Javad Kazemi, Delegate of the Islamic Republic of Iran
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم   Mr. President; I thank the delegation of New Zealand for its continued engagement in the UPR process. During the 32nd session the UPR Working Group, 194 recommendations were presented to New Zealand. My Government made 4 recommendations, out of which 2 were accepted . Mr. President; In March 2019, the Christchurch massacre took place in New Zealand. That was one of the most violent manifestations of racism and lack of tolerance in the world. While expressing sympathy with the families of victims and the Muslim community, we are deeply concerned about the spread of Islamophobia, and urge the New Zealand Government to take all necessary measures to confront this grim phenomenon, which is rooted in racism and xenophobia. We belive the national anti-discrimination legislation should ensure protection of the rights of the ethnic minorities, including Māori and Pasifika communities and should be coupled with a comprehensive national strategy to combat all kinds of violence.   I thank you.
